Classroom visits prior to field trips
Through hands-on learning, we strive to inspire within students a fondness for history. We visit local 4th and 5th grade classrooms for free with our traveling trunk filled with engaging educational materials prior to their field trip to our museum. We also offer free teacher packets (while supplies last), which include some great books and other materials for teachers to use with their students as they prepare for their field trip to the Historic Indian Agency House. If the group also plans to tour the Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters, FWSQ staff may also participate in the preparatory school visit along with us. Contact us if you would like to schedule a classroom visit prior to your field trip to HIAH.
Outdoor museum exhibitions at community events
We are pleased to reach out to communities by setting up our 10'x10' hands-on educational booth at living history events, the Columbia County Fair, the Midwest Horse Fair, and more. Contact Us regarding incorporating our educational booth into your community event.
History on the Move:
Mobile museum program for schools, care facilities, & other community venues
We are thrilled to be able to bring a high-quality interactive, personalized, and economical museum experience right to your school, care facility, library, or other community venue! History on the Move allows us to serve school districts too distant for in-person field trips; nursing home residents who are facility-bound; and more. Schedule a History on the Move experience during our off-season (November - April).
We are happy to speak to your organization on topics related to the Historic Indian Agency House and the history of the portage...our place or yours! We give presentations to civic groups, youth organizations, professional conferences, and more. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a speaking engagement.
